To wrap up a wonderful year, below are a few highlighted projects from Grads in our various programs:
Communication Design
Game Development: Art
Game Development: Programming
Graphic Design
Interaction Design & Development
Video & Motion Graphics
COMMUNICATION DESIGN
‘Burrow Coffee Co.
3rd-year Communication Design student Bronwyn Watson created the brand identity for the fictitious Burrow Coffee Co. The solutions confidently explore Burrow’s brand voice through design, colour, typography and illustration.

‘COMPACTAUDIO’
3rd-year Communication Design student Owen Hill created an instructional video for the fictitious brand COMPACTAUDIO. The video features a step-by-step demonstration of how to use a CD, executed using a mix of retro graphics, voiceover, and animation.
GAME DEVELOPMENT ART
‘Pentax’
This was a portfolio project used to explore creating a high resolution, realistic model. It was created by Denise Severa who is one of the students in the Game Development Art program using tools like Maya, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine. For more visit Denise’s ArtStation.

‘Robotic Droid’
Sophie Burns is a student in the Game Development Art program. After modeling and creating the materials for a robotic droid, she used Unreal Engine and material parameterization to give artists control over aspects such as weathering and damage. For more, visit Sophie’s ArtStation.

GAME DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING
‘HexPunk’

HexPunk was a collaborative effort from all of the Game Development students from both the Programming and 3D Art streams. While everyone contributed in many ways, the programmers each took the lead on one system; Craig was in charge of multiplayer, Angel the ability system, Olivier handled VFX and character movement, Alex focused on game design, Steven handled audio, and Quentin & Steven handled the UI.
There were many elements of the UI system, including menus, character selection and in game elements. Quentin and Steven developed attractive and functional UI that stands on it’s own, including doing much of the art and all of the audio elements. This was a complex job that kept them iterating as each other feature of the game was developed. In the end, the UI stands out on its own and deserves to the highlighted.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
‘Type Directors Club of NYC’

This poster by Cayden Dahl for the Type Directors Club of NYC that was created with the single letter “i”. Cayden explains that “the circular shape formed by the I create a sense of unity in the same way the event unites and celebrates new designers.”
‘Nuit Blanche’
Below are design expressions designed by Arielle Penner for this year’s Nuit Blanche. The creative considerations for this project where to present a moody vide that was both artistic and unique to express the nature of the event.

INTERACTION DESIGN
‘Morden Stanley Winker Emergency Management Website’
Chloe Bueckert designed a powerful new website for the Morden Stanley Winkler Emergency Response service. With a goal to make critical information accessible quickly and easily, her work includes branding, a logo, content development, and low, medium, and high-fidelity mock-ups.

‘Malasa’
Cyrus Teja created a beautiful brand around “Malasa,” a food truck specializing in Filipino cuisine. His work includes brand guidelines, product mock-ups like clothing, stickers, and menus, as well as a responsive website design for desktop and mobile devices.

‘SKUL MK-2’
“SKUL MK-2” by Joe Jantz immerses users in a futuristic realm of carbon-graphene cyberwear, brought to life using Lottie animations, razor-sharp visual storytelling, and a sleek sci-fi UI. The result is an experience that’s both immersive and captivating. For more, visit the website.

‘Celestial Club’
“Celestial Club” by Joseph Zhou is a richly illustrated journey through the 12 zodiac signs, animated with a blend of Lottie and CSS SVG animations. Using GSAP to create a scroll-based navigation, the site guides users through a dreamy celestial landscape. For more, visit the website.

VIDEO & MOTION GRAPHICS
‘Promotion Video: Apple Airpods Max’
This project was a self directed, full term project in the Studio Project class by Mikhail Whittingham, a Video and Motion Graphics student in the DMD program. Being self directed, this student decided they wanted to dive into understanding 3D materials and camera movements to make this product promotion video for Apple Airpods Max. Using the Redshift render engine in Cinema 4D, Mikhail brought his vision to life by modelling, lighting, and adding custom materials to make this short snappy promotion video.
‘Promotion Video: The Winnipeg Comedy Festival’
Below is a Project from a Video and Motion Graphics student Kiana Meister, who was challenged to make an animation advertising The Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Their great use of type layout and motion design skills make for an energetic and engaging short animation that aligns perfectly with the provided brand. Kiana managed to make type feel comedic. The animation of each frame is a like a little unique gag or joke that they pulled off with their understanding of timing and motion. Motion design is all about taking the fundamentals of design and combining them with the principles of animation, which are both on full display here.
‘Small World: Cozy Cottage’
This project challenged students to make a small world using Cinema 4D. Video and Motion Graphics student Stephanie Vidmar crafted this cozy cottage in the woods and brought it to life. Their clever use of effectors and cloners, and strong sense of motion principles make this short animation as satisfying as it is cozy. The staggered animations and subtle touches invite the viewer in for a closer look, while the sound design helps enhance the feeling of momentum in the build they achieved in their animation.
Cheers to a wonderful year and best of luck to all grads!
